It is one of the most common causes of computer problems in the marketplace, and Trent Watford is hoping to help you through the morass. Trent owns and operates Tech Help, a computer training and repair company in St. Joseph which provides on-site computer training. He is offering a free workshop to businesses to help their employees avoid being tricked by scareware. It’s a 45-minute workshop which can be delivered at your place of business over the lunch hour using laptops. The workshop is designed to train your employees in the methods used by scareware, help you to understand how to keep your computer secure, and how to deal with the threat when it is encountered. Trent will also offer the same workshop to the general public at the St. Joseph Public Library on November 11th from 7 until 8pm. To learn more, contact Mr. Watford directly at 428-7226.

The phenomena that started out as paper shamrocks and other various symbols on display is taking on a new life this year thanks to a great innovation from United Way of Southwest Michigan. Businesses both large and small will be offering customers the opportunity to buy a Live United paper cut-out in the shape of a T-shirt to then sign and place on display in that business for just $1-each. All proceeds go to support the United Way. A broad array of businesses has eagerly stepped up to the cause and will be selling the T-shirts. In Benton Harbor, The Phoenix, Oasis Party Store and Fluff & Suds on M-63 are all participating. In St. Joseph, you will find them available at All Eyes, Golden Brown Bakery, Helen’s Health Hut, Jewelfire, Perennial Accents, Steinhoff Optical, Thornton’s Café and Urban Home.

Shoppers in Coloma will find them at Cutting Corners, Easy Street Inn, Hot Spot, T’s Tap, and The Friendly Tavern. Additionally, all Berrien and Cass branches of 1st Source Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Berrien Teachers Credit Union, and Chemical Bank have them for sale. United Way Campaign Manager Retta Curneal says it’s a great way for people without a workplace campaign to support the United Way. If your business would like to be added to the participating line up, call Retta at 925-7772, Ext. 18.

Stacy Bourlier has owned and operated Essentials Salon in Benton Harbor for nearly three years now…but she’s been so busy she’s just now getting around to conducting an open house.
