Happy February Greetings! Happy February! We are making the trek through the Michigan winter, before we know it, spring will have sprung and on to a beautiful Michigan summer. You’ve got to love our four seasons, and also appreciate all the different beer styles and wines that go along to accompany the different seasons, as well as those that may be appropriate to celebrate special occasions… like VALENTINE’S DAY! Treat your Sweetie As we know, the choices for beer and wine (especially beer) has exploded in the past 5 years. It used to be giving your sweetie a box of chocolate (don’t get me wrong…I do love chocolates in a heart shaped box, but hey, why not pick beers to pair with these!?!) was about as creative as it got, but with beer and wine being as innovative as it ever has been…think about all the amazing possibilities that you could surprise your significant “beer/wine loving” other with. It is impossible to name them all…endless choices… but, to name a few suggestions, here we go! Flavored Stouts: Saugatuck Brewing Neapolitan Milk stout When we think of Valentine’s we think of sweet treats. This beer is absolutely perfect for this. Tasting like Neapolitan ice cream (Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry) it is a real pallet pleaser. You could even make an adult ice cream float out of this, or pour over the top of ice cream for a wonderful dessert to share. With a 6% ABV and 37 IBUs it is a very smooth stout. It’s Ratebeer score is 93 and an 87 on Beer Advocate. Available in 6pk bottles or in select restaurants. Ciders: Virtue Michigan Cherry Cider A wonderful gluten-free option, a beautiful pink color, bursting with local apple and cherry flavor, this cider is aged in French oak. Wine lovers, be sure to check this one out! According to their website, Michigan Cherry highlights two of our favorite fruits grown in Southwest Michigan: crisp apples, and juicy cherries. Southwest Michigan is one of the top sour cherry-producing regions in the United States. Our Michigan Cherry blends last year’s harvest of Michigan apples from local orchards that is aged in French oak barrels. We then add fresh-pressed juice from Michigan cherries. Coffee Stouts: Goose Island Fulton Street Coffee Ale Coffee lovers rejoice! Being a coffee lover a real treat is a great coffee ale that is full of flavor, yet unique as it is a golden ale as opposed to a stout or porter which you see a lot of the time when coffee is a component. Grab this seasonal brew while it lasts! Goose Island is proud to introduce Fulton Street Blend, as described on their website as a coffee ale aged with House Blend beans from our neighbors at Intelligentsia. Named for the street in Chicago that we both call home, Fulton Street Blend is a golden ale infused with rich coffee flavor and aroma. Rosé: Rosé ALL Day! Rosés have become wildly popular recently and people LOVE them! This blush colored wine is perfect for the occasion. Many people believe they are really sweet due to the color, but that usually isn’t the case. There are so many different choices for Rosé in the market today so I chose a few local options to check out! Tabor Hill Rosé, 12 Corners Blue Creek Rosé, Round Barn Pinot Meunier, Gravity Bubbly Sparkling Rosé, and Lazy Ballerina On Pointe Sparkling Rosé. You can’t go wrong. There are a million different options to choose from, champagne and some bubbly are also a great celebratory beverage to commence your valentine. Whatever you may choose, a favorite cabernet or IPA, I hope you have a special day celebrating your love! Happy Valentine’s Day! Jenna@buddistributing.com
