That news comes just a few weeks after the Martin Prosperity Institute named all of Berrien County as the 6th Best Place in the U.S. to be a Kid on Christmas. That little tidbit came from the pen of noted economic development guru Richard Florida, who has written several major books about where the creative class in America seeks to live, work and play. You might recall that Money Magazine & CNNMoney.com had designated the city of St. Joseph that same year as #5 among the Best Places to Retire , when they focused on half a dozen “Terrific Towns on the Water.” It was Money Magazine that had cited the region for having one of the Top 10 Shortest Commutes in America in 2006. Kristi Clark has asked me to help spread the word that the Seven Star Sanctuary is opening a pet rescue operation in the “Here to Spay” building at 2520 Cleveland Avenue in St. Joseph Charter Township. The sanctu-ary takes owner-surrendered, abused and high-kill shelter animals from anywhere in the U.S. The group is hosting an open house today, Saturday, January 22nd, from 11am until 2pm. The group is in desperate need of donations of any kind. Quite a few of the animals rescued, arrive in need of veterinary services and the bills are astronomical. They also need a wash-er, dryer, small refrigerator for medication, dog and puppy food, cat food and cat litter, trash bags, bleach, and a whole lot more. Check them out at www.sevenstarsanctuary.com, or you can reach Kristi at 757-2458. Thanks for your help. It’s Family Movie Night including pizza and popcorn. If you are members of the Y, your cost of admission is just $2…otherwise it will cost you $4 per person. Registration is required, and you can accomplish that task at 428-9622. The Y is also offering “TGIF” twice in February on the 11th and 12th.
